ABOUT THE PROJECT

This series of pen and ink drawings is inspired by the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) and artist José Guadalupe Posada. In this series, I take canonical European paintings and skeletonize them, thereby mocking the mortality of art. The three featured on this page are respectively based on Ingres's "La Grande Odalisque," Jan van Eyck's "Betrothal of Arnolfini," and Botticelli's "Birth of Venus." In 2013, Black Milk Clothing printed one of the drawings on limited-edition leggings and swimsuits.
